WORKSHOP | TRANSFORM YOUR OLD DOILIES | Recycle, Re-use and Re-create! with Louise Saxton

Thursday 2 Aug 2018, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Join artist Louise Saxton when she will share her passion for reclaiming domestic textiles and lead you in a hands-on workshop, transforming no longer used objects from the home into an artwork.

You can see examples of Louise’s reclaimed textile assemblage in the forthcoming exhibition PATTERNS OF COLLECTING that includes works by Loris Button, Deborah Klein, Louise Saxton and Carole Wilson.  There are also many objects from the artists’ collections alongside of those from The Johnston Collection to inspire during the workshop.

If you have heirloom or other embroidered linens (doilies, tablecloths etc.) that you no longer use, bring them to the workshop or, collect some from your local opportunity shop.

You will also need a pair of sharp embroidery scissors and a willingness to play with cutting up and reconstructing your embroidered and lace cast-offs. The process is similar to collage, but rather than using paper and glue, you will use textiles and pins to create your ‘assemblage’.

What to bring:

• Sharp embroidery scissors (available at Spotlight stores);

• embroidered doilies, tea cloths, tray cloths or tablecloths that you are willing to cut up.

Other materials such as nylon tulle, lace-pins and embroidery hoops will be provided.
