VIRTUAL LECTURE (LIVE) | RENAISSANCE PLEASURE GARDENS with Cathy Trinca

Wednesday 15 Sep 2021, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Take a journey through Northern Italy, Tuscany and Lazio looking at a number of historic gardens. From a base in the hill town of Montepulciano, Cathy travelled viewing gardens from the First Renaissance Garden in Pienza, through changes in style from Renaissance, Mannerist to Baroque. Cathy visits major gardens reflecting these styles ending at a modern interpretation of Renaissance at La Foce in Tuscany. Her talk will feature the gardens of lovely lakeside villas, fortified palazzos, playful water features, Renaissance parterres, hidden gardens and more. Contrasting with cloister gardens, these Italian Renaissance gardens were designed to encourage walkers to stroll around and explore, perhaps as distraction from everyday worries. We hope this talk can also provide some enjoyable distraction from our own lockdown worries!
