STUDY DAY 2018 | PRIVATE COLLECTIONS : CHASING THE COLLECTING BUG | Observations from a journalist's Notebook with Gabriella Coslovich

Saturday 21 Jul 2018, 10:35 AM – 11:20 PM

From reverends on limited budgets to professional gamblers of extraordinary means, from sneaker-hoarders to trophy-painting hunters, the collecting bug comes in permutations galore. Gabriella Coslovich will provide a ringside view of the collectors she's met during her twenty years as an arts journalist, looking at what drives them - be it the love of art for art's sake, or the love of turning a profit - and how they are vulnerable to the whims of the market and cheats.

GABRIELLA COSLOVICH is an arts writer with 25 years' experience, including 15 years at The Age newspaper. She was the first journalist to unearth and interview David Walsh, owner of Hobart's Museum of Old and New Art. Her true crime book, Whiteley on Trial, was published in October 2017.

This lecture is presented as part of STUDY DAY 2018 | PRIVATE COLLECTIONS | PUBLIC SPACES: THE VALUE OF ART & EPHEMERA held on Saturday 21 July 2018 from 9.00 am – 4.00 pm
