This lecture will take account of the various exhibitions on fakes from the 19th century to the present day and also survey the colourful literature – and touch upon the impact of various television programmes devoted to authenticating art and antiques, such as Antiques Roadshow.

Alision Inglis is an internationally recognised specialist in British 19th century art. She also has a research interest in Australian art museums and the history of collecting and display in this country. She is currently undertaking research on the circulation of works of art around the British Empire between 1850 and 1950.
