THE WORLD OF THE PARISIAN CAFÉ | Absinthe, Art and Anarchy with Sylvia Sagona

Wednesday 19 Mar 2008, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

In response to political repression, the Paris cafe flourished as the hub of artistic creation for new forms of music and art in the subversive atmosphere of absinthe which would soon be banned as "anti-French" for its links with the anarchical Bohemian fringe.

SYLVIA SAGONA is a Fellow of the School of Languages at the University of Melbourne specialising in 19th century French art and society.
