THE EMPRESS & THE MONK | Collecting & Collections in Tang Dynasty China with Tonia Eckfeld

Thursday 4 Oct 2007, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

In the Tang Dynasty (618-907 CE) China was at its most open and prosperous. Missionaries, pilgrims, traders and diplomats traversed the Silk Roads bringing exotic treasures to the East.

Dr Eckfeld, Associate Professor and Principal Fellow at the University of Melbourne, explores the forms, styles, subject matter and motifs of Tang decorative arts and the fabulous tastes of the emperors, clerics, nobles and merchants who collected them.
