STUDY DAY 2018 | PRIVATE COLLECTIONS : EPHEMERA WHAT IS IT? Who collects it? And why is it valuable? with Amanda Bede

Saturday 21 Jul 2018, 3:00 PM – 3:45 PM

The transient items of everyday life attract a particular type of collector. And these collectors select and curate sometimes vast private printed assemblages around forms, themes, creators.

The ephemeral items may have humble origins or purposes. Or they may have been designed to celebrate a major moment in civic life.

Often beautiful, this detritus of the ordinary can be of irreplaceable.

AMANDA BEDE was lucky enough to stumble into a job at the State Library of Victoria, Latrobe Collection. Her role included adding to a collection of political ephemera. She left the Library but stayed in the ephemera community. She has been president of the Ephemera Society of Australia and edits the Society journal and social media sites.

This lecture is presented as part of STUDY DAY 2018 | PRIVATE COLLECTIONS | PUBLIC SPACES: THE VALUE OF ART & EPHEMERA held on Saturday 21 July 2018 from 9.00 am – 4.00 pm
