This course covers decorative styles, historical events that impact on the development of decorative arts, entrepreneurial figures, research techniques and reading, writing and talking about the fine and decorative arts. It embraces the 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries and touches on furniture, porcelain, paintings, silver and glass.

The course requires no knowledge in the decorative arts, and there are no formal lectures. It is hands-on, participatory and very enjoyable.

SHIVER 4 – VALUES

In this hands on session we explore ceramics in depth and appreciate the power of porcelain in the 18th century and its impact on society.  We will explore the difference between hard and soft paste porcelain and the output of the early English factories – Bow, Chelsea, Derby and Worcester.
