MY INCOMPARABLE JOSEPHINE | The Empress & the Fine Art of Propaganda with Sylvia Sagona

Thursday 13 Sep 2007, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Far from being a mindless spendthrift, Josephine was a shrewd survivor who changed her image by collaborating with Napoleon to re-establish France as European leader in luxury goods from glass ware to embroidery. At the cutting edge between science and art, she cultivated new botanical species and gave her patronage to the first publications of Australian flora.

SYLVIA SAGONA is a Fellow of the School of Languages at the University of Melbourne specialising in 19th century French art and society.
