EXCLUSIVE EVENT | AFTERNOON TEA | DREAM GARDENS with Michael McCoy

Thursday 20 Jul 2023, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Join Michael McCoy as he explores the interface between writing, reading, and gardening.

It was reading that led Michael to gardening and reading that later revitalised his flagging commitment to a career in horticulture.  And it was the personal encouragement of writers that kept his learning curve steep, and validated his insatiable curiosity about plants, and how gardens engender such a wide range of emotional responses.

This enquiry led to thirty-three years of writing for the press on gardens and gardening, and eventually to his host role on ABC TV’s Dream Gardens.  The content of the TV show has been substantially extended in his recently published book of the same name, in which he teases out the work of eleven different garden designers, searching for the principles that can be applied to gardens everywhere.

This illustrated lecture will follow his parallel journey through the world of books, gardens and garden design, arriving at the new frontier of planting design for a changing climate.

MICHAEL McCOY is a garden designer, author, and host of the three-season ABC TV series Dream Gardens. Michael has designed gardens all over Australia as well as overseas. His design work has featured in Gardens Illustrated (UK), Garden Design (USA), and bestselling international garden design books including Dreamscapes and Wild: The Naturalistic Garden. He contributed a column to The Age for over 20 years and has had a long-standing column in Gardening Australia magazine.
