CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS: Times and Places with Sophia Errey

Wednesday 15 Dec 2021, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Do you wonder how and why we came to have the “Santafication” of Christmas? Across the world different cultures celebrate the Christmas season with a variety of performances, traditions and observances.

Learning about them can add richness and depth to our own celebrations and give us an understanding of precious inherited customs which continue to resist a homogenised global marketplace.

SOPHIA ERREY is an artist, art educator and writer. She has lectured widely in the visual arts both historical and contemporary, and in her series Art, Craft, Decoration explored the area of collecting – the whys and the whats of the things we collect. Her most recent lecture at TJC was When This You See Remember Me (2021).

This lecture is presented on-site at The Johnston Collection. Please see your ticket for more information.
