The desire for light-reflecting surfaces made certain materials and designs irresistible in the Georgian and Regency Period.
In the 17th century the dramatic use of light was played out in oils on canvas, whilst the display of blue and white porcelain brought life to the surrounds of fire places of great historic houses.
By the 18th century ormolu and gilt were all the rage. The 19th century saw a passion for papier mâché and lacquer inlaid with mother of pearl. Contrast these and many other objects with those desired by others less financially secure.
