Thursday 6 Sep 2007, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

“The Divine Marquise” who had risen from obscurity to being Louis XV‘s sole confidant and dispenser of political appointments, cleverly maintained her power, prestige and hold over the King through her role as arbiter of taste. She masterminded the Manufacture de Sèvres and oversaw its designs and production which subtly celebrated her intelligence and beauty throughout Europe.

SYLVIA SAGONA is a Fellow of the School of Languages at the University of Melbourne specialising in 19th century French art and society.
