250 YEARS OF MARINE PAINTERS with Alan Glover

Monday 17 Jun 1996, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

There is a trace of the swashbuckling treasure seeker in us all. The lure of the sea and sailing ships has long intrigued and the possession of fine ship portraits and marine paintings is a way of bringing a fascinating subject into our own orbit.

Alan Glover, an expert in Marine Paintings for the late 17th century to the 1920s, will provide an insight into this wonderfully romantic subject

Alan Glover breadth of knowledge – for the mystery surrounding the sinking of the Titanic to the debt owed by Dutch artists to the British school of Marine Painters.

William Johnston formed an impressive collection of marine pictures and these will be hung in the Kent Room for this occasion. The romantic fascination of the sea and ships translated to oil and canvas.
