Embroidery has been an important part of fashion design over the centuries. In this hands-on workshop, guests will explore historical garments and accessories from the collections of the Embroiderers Guild Victoria (EGV) while learning about techniques and making.
Experts from the EGV will share insights about beautiful embroidered garments and accessories from the 1800s to 1940s, including, for example, art deco beaded dresses, 1930s lingerie, a bonnet from the 1880s, and Chinese and Vietnamese garments.
This workshop will be hosted at The Johnston Collection, East Melbourne as part of the Paypal Melbourne Fashion Festival Independent Programme.
Your ticket includes:
- An introduction to embroidery techniques
- Examination of historical garments, including object handling
- Discussion of historic and contemporary embroidery techniques
- Viewing objects on loan from EGV in the 'Inspired by Women' exhibition at The Johnston Collection, a house museum in an 1860s townhouse in East Melbourne
