The annual WILLIAM JOHNSTON: His Residence & Collection exhibition will be another opportunity to see significant objects gathered by William Johnston and rearranged to create an English Georgian-inspired domestic interior in his East Melbourne house.
William Johnston’s love of beautiful things and history as well as his eye for the exotic, all come to life in this exhibition which explores his collection against the background of his life.
Over his lifetime Johnston assembled the most astonishing collection now comprising more than 1,400 objects of mostly 18th century English furniture, paintings, ceramics and objet d’art, now regarded as one of the best collections of its kind in Australasia.
Enjoy a visually enticing display of over 400 years of art history and share in William Johnston’s lifetime passion for collecting beautiful things. Rare items will adorn each room of Fairhall exhibition-house as you immerse yourself in otherworldly treasures and luscious interiors, filled with stories of travel and tales of the past.
