VISITING MR JOHNSTON'S RESIDENCE: A house transformed into a home

1 Sep 2005 – 21 Oct 2005

Imagine that Mr Johnston, antique dealer and collector, has just returned from one of his buying trips - perhaps to India, Egypt, North Africa, England or the Continent.

He decides he wants to put in place some pieces he has acquired on these travels. He moves the bed into a different room to create a more cosy space for himself. He calls Government House and asks to borrow back a stunning Georgian sideboard he lent some years ago. Then he has time to finish the ironing before his friends arrive for supper. Mr Johnston's abode looks totally different.

Over a cup of tea discover his younger days in an illustrated talk before you go into his residence to explore his life through his extraordinary collection of 18th and early 19th century fine and decorative arts.
