Taste & Temptation | Curator Walk and Talk with Dr Matthew Martin

Thursday 7 May 2026, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

The Johnston Collection is delighted to welcome Guest Curator Dr Matthew Martin, who has reimagined our 1860s townhouse, Fairhall, to explore the art of eating and drinking in Europe in the eighteenth century. His exhibition, Taste and Temptation, evokes drinking and dining rituals and their connection with luxury, sociability, and political intrigue.

Join Matthew on an intimate tour of the exhibition, where he discusses his interpretation and curatorial process.

Dr Matthew Martin is a specialist in European luxury arts of the 1600s -1800s. For 13 years, he was a curator in the Department of International Decorative Arts at the National Gallery of Victoria and is currently a faculty member in Art History and Curatorship at the University of Melbourne.
