THE BRIDE, THE SHIP & THE WARDROBE: ROMANCE WAS BORN meets William Johnston (inc. Kate Rohde)

2 Jul 2012 – 24 Oct 2012

Romance Was Born, one of Australia’s most internationally celebrated fashion houses, will apply their famously quirky design sensibility to the Collection. Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales swiftly made a name for themselves after graduating in fashion design in 2005.

Establishing their own label, Romance Was Born soon after, the duo are known for their unique and highly elaborate catwalk shows and their beautifully crafted contemporary garments.

As fashion designers, Romance Was Born are interested in creating spaces to convey stories. With their proposal to refashion Fairhall, Plunkett and Sales will create themes based in part on the colours of the individual rooms. Into each of these theatrically designed spaces will be introduced examples of their clothing, some mounted and posed, others cast across furniture as if abandoned by an imaginary wearer.

The sense of colour and spectacle will be heightened by installations by Melbourne-based artist Kate Rohde, with whom they have collaborated previously.
