This session considers the content and formation of two distinct and quite different private collections, each conceived with the ultimate goal of their public exhibition and enjoyment.
Geoffrey Edwards is curatorial advisor for one of these collections: Pt Leo Estate Sculpture Park; and a trustee of the other: the old and modern master print collection held by the Estate of the late Dr Colin Holden.
Both collections include remarkable international and Australian works of art, both are based in Victoria but have been sourced from a global network of galleries, auctions and specialist dealers and both have few if any parallels in this country.
GEOFFREY EDWARDS is a freelance curator and curatorial adviser to the Point Leo Estate Sculpture Park, the National Trust and Sculpture by the Sea. He is also a Trustee of The Johnston Collection. Formerly Edwards was the Director of Geelong Art Gallery and Senior Curator at the National Gallery of Victoria.
This lecture is presented as part of STUDY DAY 2018 | PRIVATE COLLECTIONS | PUBLIC SPACES: THE VALUE OF ART & EPHEMERA held on Saturday 21 July 2018 from 9.00 am – 4.00 pm
