STUDY DAY 2010 | Oriental Carpets | THE TRINITARIUS CARPET with Roger Leong

Saturday 10 Jul 2010, 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM

When the NGV acquired the Trinitarias Carpet in 1959, it believed that it was a seventeenth-century Persian masterpiece. Due to its size, however, it has rarely been on display. In 2004, it was included in an exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum. Since then, the origins and date of the carpet have been called into question. This talk will attempt to outline some of the issues surrounding this significant and yet to be resolved work.

ROGER LEONG is Curator, International Fashion and Textiles at the NGV. He has curated numerous exhibitions mainly on fashion and theatre costume for the NGV as well as National Gallery in Canberra and Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery.

This STUDY DAY, presented by well-known art, social and cultural historians, explores the artistic, social and cultural worlds where objects, interiors and design meet, is organised to coincide with FLUID BORDERS: Ways of Seeing Oriental Rugs (5 July 2010 - 20 October 2010) a TJC Gallery Experience.
