SPECIAL INTEREST TOUR | Staffordshire Stories

Sunday 14 Jan 2024, 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Our Special Interest Tours offer in-depth information and behind-the-scenes access to hidden treasures of The Johnston Collection.

Join one of our expert volunteer guides for the Staffordshire Stories tour. Produced in Staffordshire during the 18th and 19th century, these earthenware figures were relatively inexpensive to buy, but are rich in the tales they tell.

Staffordshire has been collected for over 200 years, and Staffordshire figurines were of great interest to William Johnston.

Hear the stories behind a selection of these figures - characters from history, heroes and villains, and figures inspired by popular culture, entertainment and the arts.

Visitors enjoy:

  • an introduction to TJC and Staffordshire by a knowledgeable volunteer guide
  • an intimate tour experience in Fairhall exhibition house (no more than eight visitors per guide)
  • tea or Market Lane coffee served in our delightful Wedgwood bone china
  • behind-the-scenes access to Collection objects
  • time after the tour to explore our exclusive range of gifts and homewares at our museum shop: TJC Emporium
