GIBSON'S AUCTIONS EXCLUSIVE FRIENDS PREVIEW NIGHT | The Roger Brookes Estate Auction

Jennifer Gibson and Gibson's Auctions, Melbourne's premier single-owner auction specialists for fine art and antique collections, on High Street in Armadale, have been given the responsibility for the auction of The Roger Brookes Estate. Following the bequest of a considerable amount of the estate to The Johnston Collection, The Friends are now getting the chance to preview the final auction at a Preview Night.

Roger Brookes (1929-2020) was a great-grandson of Australia’s second Prime Minister, Alfred Deakin, and a member of the Brookes family who had distinguished themselves in the fields of industry (gold mining and paper manufacturing), public service, the pastoral industry and tennis.  His father, Sir Wilfred Deakin Brookes was a decorated war hero and for many years served as a director, and often Chairman, on leading company boards in the mining, paper manufacturing and insurance industries.

Roger Brookes went on to make significant additions of Georgian silver, furniture and English blue and white ceramics to his parents’ collections. Through his involvement in TJC and the Silver Society of Australia, Roger shared his collecting and philanthropic enthusiasms. He established a philanthropic foundation and this foundation is the beneficiary of the bulk of the proceeds from the realisation of his Estate.  Roger’s foundation will benefit the Australian community for years to come.
