FUNDAÇÃO MEDEIROS E ALMEIDA with Michael Moorcroft

Wednesday 20 Mar 2013, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM

In the past two years Michael Moorcroft has been assisting the Fundação Medeiros e Almeida, a private museum in Lisbon, to re-catalogue their collection of Viennese enamels and gold boxes.

Join us to hear Michael Moorcroft who is Silver Specialist, Bonhams, London talk about his discoveries during this process, especially given recent research that has caused us to reclassify many makers and marks. A focus of the talk will be surprises one finds in the world of presentation boxes as to age, maker and origin.

Mr Moorcroft will also give time to the largest Austrian silver, enamel and hardstone creation in existence and how new findings have brought into question the provenance.

Continuing with the Viennese theme, Mr Moorcroft will also briefly mention an astonishing silver soup tureen (pictured above) that Bonhams, will be offering for sale in the summer: one of eight tureens from the service made for Duke Casimir of Sachsen-Teschen and his consort Archduchess Marie Christine of Austria (sister to Marie-Antoinette and daughter of Maria Theresa).
