On a cold night in December 1914 a miracle took place during WW1.  Men threw down their arms and came together across the front line to sing, eat and drink together.  It happened spontaneously regardless of orders to the contrary by superior officers. It started when German soldiers lit candles on small Christmas trees and German, French, British and Belgian came together to sing carols.

Noted military historian Stanley Weintraub tells the moving story of this amazing truce and how ordinary men can bond in spite of politicians and generals.  Whilst the war endured for much longer than thought in 1914, and the carnage was great, this Christmas truce make wonderful reading.
