The Friends First Friday Book Club starts the new year with Pulitzer Prize for Fiction winner, The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.
A big novel, with art at its centre, it examines the infinite beauty in a small masterpiece by Carel Fabritius (1622-1654) together with the tragedy of loss through violence. It examines urban life, personal relationships and survival in a manner that has Dickensian undertones. The novel provides a multitude of topics to discuss.
DONNA TARTT is the author of The Goldfinch, which was awarded the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, as well as the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction. Her novels The Secret History and The Little Friend have been translated into 30 languages. She was born in Greenwood, Mississippi and is a graduate of Bennington College.
