DISCOVER THE CONNECTION BETWEEN BOW AND WEDGWOOD | BOW PORCELAIN with Dr Ross Ramsay

Tuesday 15 Aug 2006, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Lovers of Bow Porcelain will be intrigued by this lecture in which Dr Ramsay will outline his work on the classification on 18th century Bow Porcelain from first patent till closure.

Dr Ross Ramsay says this is the first integrated classification of the entire Bow Porcelain output using composition, stylistic features, translucency, and the visual appearance of the paste, since Frank Hurlbutt’s work Bow Porcelain published in 1926 in which he looked at “… the history, manufacture and decoration of Old Bow Porcelain from an altogether new point of view.”

Dr Ramsay is an engaging lecturer and will present this new integrated classification system in a way that is accessible to collectors, museum curators and even those who are just fascinated by the subject.

Dr Ramsay has undertaken ground breaking research on Bow Porcelain and his presentations always leave his audience thinking. In this lecture he will conclude that the Bow manufactory and its proprietors, operated from 1743-1774 and was the most significant and important ceramic manufactory of 18th century Britain.
