Description
bowl, lidded, classically-shaped shallow bowl and cover decorated with a dark blue ground with applied / sprigged figure groups etc. in white. In the form of a Kylix, each side of the bowl has an elongated looped handle; the exterior is decorated with groups of putti involved in various pursuits, each group seperated by pairs of inverted anthemion and palm front motifs. At the points where the handles are affixed are laurel wreaths, the handles themselves applied with husks. The perimeter of the bowl decorated with a continuous frieze of acanthus and egg and dart type sprigging. The interior of the bowl is glazed. The domed cover is pierced with twenty holes each five mm in diameter and is surmounted with a squat round finial applied with a twelve petalled floret and from which four palm fronds radiate. The cover is also decorated with twelve four-petalled florets.
