Description
mirror, cushion, frame is deeply moulded in pine and veneers are applied in small sections across each of the four bands or moulded sections. The outer astragal or bead is rounded and forms the edge of the frame. Immediately inside this beading is a wide band in ogee form of convex moulding which has the most highly figured "oyster" sections veneered to it. A narrow bead, of rounded form similar in size to the outer edge separates the wide ogee moulding from a narrower band of convex ogee form which houses the bevelled mirror. The glass in the bevelled mirror is quite thin and may be original. The bevelling on the mirror appears to be of a later date.
VERSO Spruce or pine frame. The frame appears to be constructed with tenon joints at the corners, possible mortice and tenon, but part is obscured by the veneer. The side of the frame has two routed sections which once may have housed a crest, how missing. The mirror back is concealed by a pine backing, one section is split.
The backing has been papered over where it meets the frame and this has been in place for a considerable time-possibly 100 years.
