In 1813, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice was published to widespread acclaim. The novel has never been out of print since this time, and remains one of the best-loved examples of both female characterisation and female authorship in English literary history.

Inspired by the bicentenary of this event, The Johnston Collection is mounting a special exhibition exploring the role of women as writers, thinkers, makers, archetypes and artistic subjects, from the eighteenth century to the close of the nineteenth.
